SUMMARY:CIDNI Affiliated Faculty Presents on Long-Acting Bup and ART
DESCRIPTION:Join Dr. Omeid Heidari\, an affiliated faculty of CIDNI along with Dr. Jehan Budek on May 13th\, 2026 at 2pm EST as they present on “Protocols and lessons learned in integrating long-acting buprenorphine and antiretrovirals in HIV primary care.”\n\nDespite availability of effective medications for opioid use disorder (MOUD) like buprenorphine\, only 17% of 4.8 million people with OUD received treatment. Long-acting injectable buprenorphine (LAIB) is a promising strategy to improve MOUD access. LAIB has shown better short-term adherence\, lower overdose risk\, and improved initiation and retention\, especially for fentanyl users\, compared to oral forms.\nParallel to this\, people living with HIV with opioid use disorder have lower rates of retention in care\, adherence to antiretroviral therapy and HIV viral load suppression. Nurses in HIV and opioid use disorder care have increasingly improved access and retention to treatment\, but integration of long-acting injectable buprenorphine in HIV primary care settings is limited.\nIn this webinar\, we will present implementation of long-acting injectables for buprenorphine and antiretroviral therapy in a HIV primary care clinic\, lessons learned and implications for nurse-driven practice to retain patients living with HIV who use opioids in care.\n\nThis presentation is provided by the Association of Nurses in AIDS Care – registration is required and after successful completion of the webinar\, 1 contact hours of NCPD will be provided.\n\nClick the link to here to register:  Register
