As of August 24, 2026, Maryland has had 31 cases of measles, of those, 27 had occurred since July 15, 2026. The recent cases are 14 in Southern Maryland, 8 in Central Maryland and 5 in the Upper Eastern Shore. St. Mary’s, Cecil and Carroll Counties are currently considered having an outbreak.
Of the cases in Maryland have been diagnosed in unvaccinated persons. We need to encourage and support vaccination against measles. Measles remains highly contagious from 4 days before till 4 days after the rash appears and an outbreak occurs when there are two or more epidemiologically linked cases within 42 days.
Suspected cases should be isolated with airborne precaution and reported to your local health department: Maryland Department of Health MDH Health Departments. Maryland Department of Health will conduct Measles PCR testing through their laboratory but you must obtain prior approval.
