A new Maryland law, House Bill 119 became effective in October 1, 2024, the new law is named the GIFT (Giving Infants a Future Without Transmission) Act. This law requires clinicians to test all pregnant women for HIV and syphilis at the time of delivery. If a baby is born stillborn at 20 weeks or more or weighing over 500 grams, the mother must be tested for syphilis.
